Tya is a student counselor at Tierra Nueva Counseling Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of New Mexico. She is currently getting her Master of Arts degree in Counseling at Southwestern College. Tya has worked with children on the autism spectrum and elderly veterans.
She is influenced by CBT, DBT, trauma reprocessing, ecotherapy, play therapy, mindfulness, equine-assisted psychotherapy, dance and movement therapy, intuitive eating, and Health At Every Size. She hopes to add depth and compassion as well as playfulness and humor in her work as a counselor. She was born and raised in Moriarty, New Mexico. She desires to give back and inspire hope and healing to her Central New Mexico community. “I really like this quote that many associate with Einstein, ‘Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.’ I want to support people in finding and owning their flavor of genius. I want to help them know their power, even in the ‘yuck’ life can chuck at us. Holding hope for folks that goodness and connection exist, even when they can’t see it, is my jam.”
