I believe that humans are by nature profoundly creative and capable of much…capable of growth, insight, recovery and ultimately joy…even in the face of the most daunting challenges. I believe that with support, we can understand ourselves with the compassion and love that is required to make the small changes that can lead to big change and a sense of personal power and peace. As a therapist, my intention is to serve as a grounded presence that provides safety and guidance to help individuals discover their own goals / intentions for living a fulfilled life. Sessions are shaped according to needs of the individual and focus on client strengths. I utilize evidence-based therapies such as Solution Oriented Therapy to support positive outcomes. Other therapies include Narrative Therapy and Bowen Family Systems Therapy. Depending on the client before me, I may also use writing or art directives, mindfulness, dream work, movement or CBT and DBT interventions as feels appropriate. I am a Certified Complex Trauma Specialist and am comfortable working with all age groups. Before becoming a therapist, I worked for 23 years as a personal coach specializing in helping clients connect to their own knowingness to solve life problems and move through spiritual impasses. Besides my MA in clinical counseling, I have a BA in art (painting and illustration) from Rhode Island School of Design and over the years have received commissions for large murals, special wall finishes, decorated furniture and paintings. I have also worked as a group leader for the YCC. Here I taught teens biology while outdoors, took them camping with other group leaders and worked together with them creating and maintaining trails. These and other experiences have taught me that creativity and nature are powerful healing resources available to all of us, and we can forge personal connections to both.
